American-Palestinian Adolescent Released Following Nine-Month Period in Israel's Custody

A Palestinian-American youth who spent nine months in imprisonment by Israel without charge gained freedom.

Mohammed Ibrahim had just turned 15 at the time of his arrest this past winter in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, during a family visit on holiday from Florida accused of stone-throwing against settlement residents, claims he consistently denied.

The US state department said it welcomed the teenager's freedom.

Currently aged sixteen, required hospitalization upon gaining freedom, relatives told the media.

According to them, he appears showing signs of malnutrition, and is suffering from conditions acquired while detained.

In a statement, family spokesperson expressed the family's "immense relief".

Zeyad Kadur said the family had been "living a horrific and endless nightmare" over the last nine months.

"At this moment, our priority is getting Mohammed urgent medical care necessary for his recovery after experiencing mistreatment by authorities and inhumane conditions throughout his detention."

The state department said it would continue to provide consular support to the teenager's relatives.

Several congressional representatives endorsed a document to diplomatic officials and the administration, requesting additional efforts to secure his release.

Mr Ibrahim, a father-of-four who runs an ice cream business in Florida, previously claimed Mohammed acknowledged allegations to throwing stones after being assaulted by soldiers.

He had not seen or communicated with his son following the detention, receiving updates exclusively what had happened to him via legal paperwork.

The teenager remained absent formal charges in Ofer prison throughout the occupied territory.

Additionally housing adult prisoners, featuring prisoners sentenced for major terrorist activities and homicide.

Approximately 350 Palestinian minors in security custody being held in Israeli jails, according to the Israeli Prison Service.

Many have never been charged along with monitoring agencies, including UN bodies, report instances of physical abuse and torture.

After the teenager's freedom, family representatives announced the family would also continue fighting for justice for his cousin Sayfollah Musallet.

This young American-Palestinian according to health authorities succumbed to assault by settlement residents amid clashes during summer.

Initially, military authorities reported officials were investigating reports a Palestinian civilian had died.

Both young men collaborated at their family's ice cream business based in Florida.

No charges have been filed with Sayfollah's killing.

"We expect the American government to ensure our family's safety," family representatives emphasized.
